Genesis 3:15, Mark 3:22-27, Hebrews 2:5-18, 1 Corinthians 15:24-26, 1 John 3:7-8, Revelation 12:10-12

Scripture Reading: Genesis 3:15, Mark 3:22-27, Hebrews 2:5-18, 1 Corinthians 15:24-26, 1 John 3:7-8, Revelation 12:10-12
“Mom, why did Jesus come here?”
It was way past our kids’ bedtime, and I, as a mother, had lost all patience.
We were in the middle of reading one more bedtime story from my son’s children’s Bible, and I wanted to be done. But this question hung in the air, and I knew it was important.
Every year around Christmas, we get wrapped up in busyness, Christmas parties, and buying gifts for the people we love. We hang lights and stockings and bake cookies, cookies, and more cookies.
But somewhere along the way, I apparently forgot to remind my son of what there actually was to celebrate…and why Jesus had come in the first place.
Little did I know that it wasn’t just my then-five-year-old who needed the reminder. I so desperately needed it as well.
“The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the devil’s works.”
—1 John 3:8
Since birth, you and I have been marked by our sins, and these sins hurt God, our Creator. Jealousy, deceit, lying, gossip—the list goes on. Death and punishment were what we all deserved.
But God, the One who is in charge of everything, still loves us very much—enough so, that He has even given us dominion over the world He created (Hebrews 2:6–8). These promises are a reminder that yes, we will struggle against the enemy (Genesis 3:15), but our sin and mistakes are not the end of the story. The Bible tells us that Christ will reign until all His enemies are under His feet, the biggest of these being death itself (1Corinthians 15:25–26)!
This means that even the BIG things, the things that seem to loom over us and threaten to destroy us, are under God’s feet.
So to answer my son’s question, “Why did Jesus come here?”
It’s because, in the end, God wins! The darkness of death is not the end of the story, and death will be defeated (Revelation 12:10). It may not always seem like everything is subject to God, but the fact that Jesus came, died, and rose again is proof of His victory! We may not see everything set right yet. We may see pain, uncertainty, and unrest, but we also see Jesus (Hebrews 2:7–9).
Friend, we have a merciful and faithful high priest who is fighting on our behalf. That is why we can live in peace (v.17). I’m praying that this Advent you and I will remember in every moment that death is in fact defeated and our Savior has the final word.

I’m so excited for Him to come!
I listened to week 1 advent podcast, and it got me fired up to not just remember God and spend time with him but share him and give him. How can I live giving him away?Reply

Good evening, She’s! During todays reading I couldn’t stop hearing these lyrics from What A Beautiful Name by Brooke Ligertwood
“ Death could not hold You, the veil tore before You
You silenced the boast of sin and grave
The Heavens are roaring, the praise of Your glory
For You are raised to life again
You have no rival, You have no equal
Now and forever, God, You reign
Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the Glory
Yours is the Name above all names “I often think what it must’ve been like in the days following the resurrection… the pain his disciples must have been feeling until Jesus revealed himself.. there must of been so much excitement, glory! Rejoice!!
Ladies if you can please be praying over my family. We are in the midst of buying a home and we are waiting for our loan to get approved. Secondly we have all been struck in my home with the stomach flu. My daughter is already feeling better but my husband and I are fatigued and exhausted!
Praying for many blessings for you all this weekend. May the Lord grant peace over your home and hearts!

“For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”
Hebrews 2:17-18 NIVI love these verses because it reminds me that not only does God love me, but He understands me. His grace and love are so abundant and it is through that abundance that I hope to extend it to others. My prayer is that I will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s prompting to act on ways to live those around me.

I really chuckled at this part “We hang lights and stockings and bake cookies, cookies, and more cookies”. Indeed I will hang a few more strands of lights, and I will bake three kinds of cookies as cookies were mentioned three times here lol (our favorites are chocolate cringles, snickerdoodle and Russian tea cakes). Advent season is indeed a very busy season, but peace is present within. Though so cold and dark outside, but cozy and bright within our hearts, all thanks to the grace of our merciful Lord. Have a blessed weekend sisters. Rejoice, and rejoice some more. May His presence and the fulness of joy be with you this holiday season and beyond.

..but our sin and mistakes are not the end of the story. The Bible tells us that Christ will reign until all His enemies are under His feet, the biggest of these being death itself (1Corinthians 15:25–26)!
.
I love that the story, my story doesn’t or hasn’t ended because of my mistakes or sin.
That God’s love for me, is God’s love for me, doesn’t change, it is pure and of the finest grade. It is not I, He abhors, but the sin! The sins that goes against the grain, the sins that make God sad, the sins that break His heart. These, are what will be under His feet. These are what will be defeated.
.
BUT GOD..
.
We will no longer be held to ransom over these sins. We will know the victory of Christ’s coming, His death, His resurrection. We will know the peace He came to give, the peace that should have been ours, but, for our sin.
.
So yeah, in response to the little persons question.. “Why did Jesus come here?”
He came overloaded in mercy and faithfully fights for us in love and hope. When that is done, what we are left with is victory that was never going to be ours without Him.
.
Jesus brings Hope wrapped in peace in the victory!
Amen.
.
Happy Friday my dears!. Sending love as always..❤

The Son of God was laid in darkness
A battle in the grave

I needed this reminder that the evil of this world will eventually cease as Jesus crushes the devil once and for all. As a new mom to a just-turned-one-year-old boy, I have found myself so much more moved with heartbreak and compassion when I look at the suffering and celebration of lies that marks our world. Becoming a mom has made my heart so soft but it’s also so hard to watch the world be so evil and know God is allowing it. thank you Emmanuel that you WILL defeat all evil forever!! come, Lord Jesus, come!

Hey, do you girls wanna know my favorite Bible verse?? ;)
“And the God of peace will soon crush Satan underneath your feet..” Romans 16:20
Whenever I feel like the enemy is really picking on me or trying to make it seem like he’s winning, I say this verse out loud. Or I share it with someone who is struggling, too. As someone who grew up liking heavier music (I’ve mellowed out a bit) – it is pretty punk rock of Jesus to include this verse hahaha. But seriously, this verse is one to hang to… because the enemy is defeated!!!!! Jesus is already on the throne, and I love in Hebrews 2: “He left nothing that is not put under Him… But now we do not yet see all things put under him…”
We don’t yet see – but we will! The Word also says that He leads us in a triumphal procession. (2 Corinthians 2:14) ❤️
Honestly, I’m hyping myself up right now typing this all, so I pray it touches you as well who are struggling to believe in the victory of Jesus in your life and specific circumstances. Praise God for His Word… where would we be without it???If you’d like a good song about Satan/Death being defeated, look up “Death Defeated” by The Altar Music. It’s from a church in TN led by a pastor who used to be in the alternative Christian music scene… amazing stuff! ❤️
Love you all so much. ❤️
May God keep us glued to Him this holiday season.Reply

Wow! That song is amazing! Thanks so much for sharing!
I was so touched as well today by the verse “The last enemy to be abolished will be death.” I Cor 15:26
Praise God , it provides me much comfort when the Enemy seems to be winning to know who will win in the end!! Yes, he has defeated the Enemy by the cross. We anticipate the day when he abolishes all death but we live now in the comfort of knowing the cross has defeated death for us so that we will live with Him eternally.
Also love Romans 16:20 and wrote that down to also memorize and say out loud as you suggested!! ❤️Reply

Last night I received an email from someone who I believed I have been reconciled with. The reconciliation was an answer to prayer, over two years of prayer. And it truly was a miracle! The email I received last night took the relationship back to where it used to be. So of course, my heart is sad, these scriptures today give me hope! God wins in the end! And so we continue to persevere in prayer! We don’t give up!
Prayers for next Thursday, the baby I foster will receive a life-changing ruling from the judge.

This whole thing about death has been on my mind a lot lately. I just have this feeling my mother is not going to be around much longer. She has advanced dementia, and is pretty much like an infant these days. But the thing about death is that it’s not the end for Christians. I’ve prayed for healing for my mom, and God hasn’t done it. And I realize the ULTIMATE healing is her being able to be in Heaven, receiving her eternal reward. Everyone Jesus healed in the New Testament is not here any more. All of them have died, all of them have received their ULTIMATE healing by leaving this restricted earth and going to their heavenly reward. My heart is heavy, but I also rejoice that my mother will soon (how soon, I do not know) be with Jesus in heaven, completely healed of any disease and earthly failings.

GM She’s!
It’s not often we think about Jesus’ death at Christmas time, that’s for Easter, but he was born for the mission to die. I thought of the lyrics right away to “Worthy is the Lamb’
Thank you for the cross, Lord
Thank you for the price You paid
Bearing all my sin and shame
In love You came
And gave amazing graceThank you for the cross Lord, Thank you for the nail pierced hands, washed me in your cleansing flow, now all I know is your forgiveness and embrace
As He was here, training up his disciples and telling them what was to come- they couldn’t grasp it, they were still waiting for his Rise Up and Conquering moment to set EVERYONE straight, the leaders, the Romans and all, and they got to be right there in his army, the generals. But then he died, and not even a cool death, a mocking, sad, disappointing death. Then they ran scared and were even embarrassed to have been his followers. I can so understand this in ways, and then on the other hand..think how could they have not understood!?
It is a lot to ponder on this day, and question how walking with him and knowing his death (should) give us peace. Are we disciples that know and trust, or do we run away and hide? Do we want to follow him but shrink away when others mock us?! Do we trust, and know the end of the story and the peace it should give us? I want to say yes, I want to be a Peter (before his death)-yes Lord, I love you…I love you. Yet, become a Peter after sometimes…lost and ashamed. Thankfully we have the third Peter– forgiven, and restored and testifying. But life for the disciples and current believers wasn’t/isn’t peaceful in how we had hoped. It was and is a hard, rocky road just like for Jesus, yet it is a hard fought love and peace that we KNOW the peace that surpasses all understanding, that after DEATH it begins.
Hard to make it make sense- but that is just the juxtaposition of the Christian.Reply

Did someone say Cookies? I am a sucker for a “good” cookie. Especially chocolate chip! Happy Friday sweeties! OK…now back to this mornings devotion! Two days ago…ALL FOR THE GLORY of God, a parent (different parent from the one I mentioned on Tuesday) was dropping of her student. She is a lovely lady who ALSO happens to LOVE JESUS!! I noticed she was a little sad, which is unusual for her. Out of no where (it was JESUS, I just know it), I reminded her God knows the numbers of hairs on our head, how many grains of sand there is at the ocean, HE tells the ocean “how-far-it-can-go.” Tears started to roll down her face, and at that moment in room full of children all I could do is give her a hug and was grateful for that reminder. Its ALL JESUS, right place, at the right time! YEP…just as Abby ended our devo this morning, “we have a merciful and faithful high priest who is fighting on our behalf.” I am SO grateful for my JESUS who “saw” me during those dark nights on the corner of the couch during my quiet time when I was crying out to HIM! My Jesus saw my tears. SO grateful, even though OUR JESUS had to endure physical pain, HE defeated death for YOU and I so we can live with HIM forever and ever…. I can’t wait!

My husband and I were just talking about this last night. We were sharing some encouraging news we had heard lately about revival and changes for good that are happening around us. And I said to him, I always know that God wins in the end, but it certainly does feel like Satan is always winning here on Earth. So I am so grateful for these glimpses of God’s intervention and His power to “win” in the end. These verses and both devotionals, this one and HRT, speak so clearly to that and are such a joy to my heart!
Here is a section from HRT that struck me today: Our readings today confront us with our great enemy, Satan, and his work, death. The peace and tranquility of innocence our first parents experienced in the garden of Eden was disrupted and lost by the deception of Satan. We’ve been in an anxious and disrupted world ever since. He acts as a “strong man” (Mark 3:27), bullying humanity around. He holds the “power of death” and keeps humanity in captivity as slaves, fearful of death (Hebrews 2:14–15). He is a bald-faced accuser of God’s people who won’t shut up with his lies. It’s no wonder peace is so elusive for us. We have a real enemy working to make sure we have no peace, threatening us with great loss and judgment in death.
This is SO true, and sometimes I get discouraged by it all. But God wins AND He is always working. I feel so much peace today and will be holding that truth close to my heart all day and throughout this season.

Yes, my thoughts were there too, that we should have peace—but the devil is here to do all he can to disrupt it all! To kill and destroy- and it sure seems like he is doing a pretty good job! Thankful we know with Jesus, he will protect us- but it won’t be easy!

This week I have felt so refreshed and focused and aligned with Jesus in the morning and then the day starts….the complications and dynamics of work are dragging me into nonsense and behaviours that are not demonstrating love and I end the day worn out from my own mistakes. Phew— Not sure if anybody else has days when you just have a hard time focusing on Scripture and devotion, but I’m having one of those days this morning. Doesn’t matter how many times I read the same passage, it’s not reaching by me. Does that make sense? I’ll come back later and try again because I figured a posture of frustration is not appropriate for morning prayer.
But from what I was able to grasp today— let’s remind ourselves that we know how this story ends and we are on the winning side, SHEs!

I know we are in the peace week, but these verses and Abby’s devotional also speak hope. Yes Andrea the devil’s time is short and he knows it, that’s why he is so active But God, Jesus, has defeated him! Thank you Jesus for the hope and peace your life and sacrifice bring!

The unthinkable has happened to a friend and coworker. Today’s reading gets down to the heart giving peace to those in situations that are beyond understanding.

“Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, Jesus also shared in these, so that through his death he might destroy the one holding the power of death—that is, the devili—and free those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death”
.
The “sting” of death has been removed for those in Jesus. Hallelujah!
